I had some relatives coming into town recently and I don’t know if you ever feel this way, but sometimes it feels like I’m taking family to the same old places that I always take them. I was looking for something different, somewhere unique to bring them. There are the places that I go to constantly that are amazing, but one of the best parts of having family in town is exploring new places with them.

It’s always fun to find something new in your hometown. So, as I often do when I’m trying to make plans for a day in Westerly or the surrounding towns, I headed to the Westerly Life Yellow Pages – it’s accessible via the “Yellow” button at the bottom of your screen.

My aunt and uncle, who live in Connecticut, both enjoy outdoor activities but also love shopping at little boutique stores and eating tasty food so I knew I’d be able to come up with a good plan for the day. Since we were likely going to start with a late breakfast, I clicked on the “Restaurants” link which opened up a new menu with various kinds of eateries. Ended up on the “Diners” page and decided that we should try Amanda’s Pantry since I’ve never been there before.

Since I knew the weather was going to be a bit iffy for their visit, I decided to find a few different activities we could do in the afternoon, based on whether it was sunny and nice out or not. I clicked on the “Breweries, Distilleries & Vineyards” tab and after browsing through, decided on Beer’d Brewing Co and Grey Sail Tap Room as options for places to go depending on the weather.

Typing in various other keywords such as “books” found me some other excellent options. I added Savoy Bookshop & Cafe to the list.

I also wanted to find a few more boutique style shops for my aunt and uncle to buy some gifts because I know how much they like planning their Christmas presents well in advance. So I headed over to the “Shopping and Specialty Retail” page in the Westerly Life business directory. I decided to pick only places I knew just because we only had one day together and I didn’t want to waste time finding places to park and then finding out the store wasn’t what we had expected it to be.

I decided on Galapagos in Charlestown and Woodmansee’s Gift Shop & Boutique in downtown Westerly. Both have great gifts and if all else failed, I knew that Savoy would have a lot of great books and gifts.

Since they were heading out right after dinner, I wanted to find a place that would be quick and delicious. Even though I’ve been there a million times, I wanted to bring my aunt and uncle to Pizza Place. They have the best pizza around, in my opinion.

Alrighty, well I’ve got some friends visiting so I need to go plan another day of fun! Thanks for hanging out – and don’t forget to use the business directory if you need anything!
