Summer is here and it’s time to relax, so slip into your flip flops, put on your favorite t-shirt, grab your family and friends and head down to Misquamicut for a weekly blast-from-the-past with the Misquamicut Business Association’s (MBA) Classic Car Cruise nights.

There’s nothing like summer in Westerly and as usual, the MBA has been working hard to help make the summer of 2018 a memorable one for its residents and visitors. This year the Classic Car nights will be held every Tuesday (on rain free nights) beginning at 5:30 p.m. and running until dusk. Admission is free and so is the parking. It’s a deal that can’t be beat!

Take time to mingle with friends, classic car owners, and people from our fine community. Show the kids a great wholesome evening with music from the 1950s through 1970s sponsored by 102.3 FM/ The Wolf, which will be broadcasting live from the event on most nights.

Now in its 18th year, the Classic Car Cruise nights will be jam packed with fun for all who come to enjoy the warm salty air and glorious sunsets of Misquamicut Beach. Whether you are a car buff or not, the Cruise nights will offer a good time to check out antique cars, one-of-a-kind cars, and opportunities to talk to car owners who are there simply because they like to share their hobby with each other and the entire community. It’s a great time to take some photos, meet some interesting people, and de-stress!

Local businesses will be offering free giveaways. Great music spanning the 1950’s through the 1970’s will set the backdrop for people to enjoy a variety of food, and the classic cars, hot rods, factory muscle cars, and classic muscle machines of yesterday. Some cars are almost 100 years old  – dating as far back as the 1920’s. Choose your favorite car – perhaps a Camaro, Firebird, or Mustang! You’ll also get to see some of the newer higher performance vehicles now being made by Chrysler and Ford.

According to Doc of Blue Moon Promotions, a professional DJ, and the person who started this event about forty years ago, a “Cruiser of the Week” award will be given out every week and chosen by a mix of 102.3 FM, Doc, and attendees. The winner will get a small trophy and the honor of being best in show for that week. According to Doc, on any Tuesday night, there will be anywhere from 80 to 130 cars to enjoy.

In addition to the Classic cars, go-carts and miniature golf will be available across the street. Every vehicle who attends has an opportunity to stay for the Drive – in for free just for coming to the Cruise night. As is a Westerly tradition, food and snacks will be available for purchase and will be plentiful and delicious from food trucks and nearby Misquamicut restaurants.

“I like the crowd – they are always enthusiastic,” Pat Cole of 102.3 FM/ The Wolf  said. “It is a big-time family event with lots of cool cars.”

The shows have already started and will run every week through Tuesday, September 11. Thanks, props, and gratitude go out to Misquamicut’s Atlantic Beach Park at 321 Atlantic Ave and Windjammer Parking for graciously allowing this event to happen on their property.
