Lynryd Skynyrd’s Last of the Street Survivors Farewell tour came through Mohegan Sun Casino on May 24, 2019, the Friday night of Memorial Day Weekend, to an enthusiastic and loyal nearly sold out-crowd. Playing all the hits (Saturday Night Special, Tuesday’s Gone, Whipping Post, etc) through the two-hour set and culminating with a mind-splitting finale of Freebird, the veteran rockers from Jacksonville, Florida, did not disappoint. For those familiar with the many sad premature losses of various band members, including the original lead singer Ronnie Zan Sant, whose younger brother Johnny Van Zant, has taken over quite admirably, there were several video and photographic tributes to remind us all how fleeting life is. Nevertheless, the show was mostly an upbeat affair, complete with an earnest “USA” chant from the crowd after the final guitar lick was echoed.
