Loveridge Place, which now has locations in both Westerly and Pawcatuck, serves up freshly made, locally sourced and primarily from scratch baked goods, soups, sandwiches and more.
Run by executive chef and founder Carla Gennuso, the bakery first opened its doors less than two years ago. Since then they’ve expanded to a larger, sit-down restaurant in Pawcatuck and also opened a second shop on Main Street in Westerly.
Loveridge is the maiden name of Gennuso’s grandmother. Originally from Brewster, NY, Gennuso would spend her summers at her grandmother’s home in Charlestown, RI and the shop is lovingly named in her honor.
Gennuso learned the art of pastry making while attending culinary school in California. She applied for a line cook position at a new Patisserie and Bistro that was opening and ultimately became the owner’s apprentice, A talented pastry chef, she spent eight years learning from him before moving on.
Menu items at Loveridge Place include delicacies such as chocolate almond croissants and unique breakfast sandwiches like the popular egg, cheddar and pumpkin maple compote or the local soupy with egg, provolone and red pepper relish. For lunch, they serve rotating specials of homemade soups and sandwiches such as pastrami, roast beef and house-made sausage.
“I love to try new things, that’s what keeps me motivated,” Genusso said.
Among the new offerings are baguettes thanks to a pizza oven at their new location. They’ve also been experimenting with a Tuesday night pop-up dinner series, much to the delight of their loyal regulars. There’s been a burger night, a Mexican style dinner and a Pasta night, and they plan to continue trying new things as they figure out what works best for the new space. Stop by one of their two locations at 15 Palmer Street in Pawcatuck or 137 Main Street in Westerly.
