It might be a bit chilly outside, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had in Westerly, so grab your best girlfriends and make plans for an entire Girls Day downtown! To help you maximize your fun and minimize your stress, we’ve put together a suggested itinerary for you!
Mia’s Prime Time Cafe
Start the day off right at Mia’s for breakfast – or brunch, if you want to sleep in a bit! Located right on the bridge from Westerly to Pawcatuck, Mia’s serves breakfast all day and lunch starting at 11am and always has delightful options for everyone, from classic staples like omelettes and French toast to specials like their “Sin”-amon Roll (which is a bacon-stuffed cinnamon roll), and of course mimosas and bloodies for anyone who wishes to imbibe. For the healthy eaters in your group, fret not – Mia’s also offers a variety of healthy alternatives, smaller plates, and lighter fare.
If you want to take on the rest of your day in true style, your next stop should be Bella Vita, located right down the road on High Street. Bella Vita is a beauty salon that offers a variety of services, from hair cuts and colors to manis/pedis, skin care and facials, waxing, spray tans, and even massages. Make sure to book in advance to be sure that you and the girls can all enjoy your salon time together.
Cross the street to check out Re-Reads, a used bookstore that opened up recently and is stacked floor to ceiling with old and new classics just waiting to be discovered. Pick up some cookbooks and start a recipe swap with your friends, find the next great read for your book club, or take it to the next level by combining the two and make plans for your next get-together to be a literary-themed pot-luck. Re-Reads is small but has it all, including a knowledgeable owner who can help you navigate the shelves and guide you to your next favorite book. The shop also has a small selection of signed copies available, recently including I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron, which make for great conversation pieces and gifts.
Zoe & Co
Keep heading down High Street and around the corner to Zoe’s Lingerie if you want to spice things up a little next. Zoe’s is a staple in downtown Westerly for its plethora of gorgeous lingerie and hosiery. As the Sweet Potato Queens’ Book of Love advises: “Always wear pretty underwear, on account of you just never know.
The Twisted Vine
By now you’re sure to have worked up an appetite and fortunately, you’re right across the street from the Twisted Vine, which has all your appetizer, dinner, wine, and cocktail needs covered. Don’t get it twisted – from their fried kale and vegetable dumplings and coconut shrimp to their filet mignon and seafood pasta, the Twisted Vine is truly divine. They even have Wine Tasting Wednesdays on the first Wednesday of every month where you can learn about wine and food pairings, trivia on Thursday nights, and dance parties on Saturday nights!
If the wine and cocktails have you feeling feisty and competitive, stroll on down to Flip Side for a few rounds of pinball. Thursday night is designated as Ladies Night with the Double Danger Dames league playing, but any night can be ladies night, in this writer’s opinion, once you and your best gal pals show up.
Retrace your steps a bit and end the night on a sweet note with some homemade artisan gelato at Pompelmo back up on High Street. With flavors like spiced apple cider, coconut samoa, cake by the ocean, and blood orange and new ones being dreamed up all the time, you really can’t find a sweeter way to end your day.
