Whether you’re looking for an over-the-top, luxury experience or a simple down-home good time, the Westerly area fits the bill for whatever your little heart – and your sweetheart – desires.

Want to grab some flowers for your honey? Try Rosanna’s Flowers on Franklin Street for everything from Roses to Tulips – or better yet, order online and try the Rosanna’s Choice bouquet for $50.

If it’s something sweet you’re after, head to Hauser Chocolatier for plenty of local homemade chocolates and other goodies.

And finally, here are some date ideas for the big day itself, from casual to elegant, and all just a short drive away. Friendly reminder, Valentine’s Day is Friday, February 14 so don’t forget to make your reservations in advance and pick up a card before all the good ones are taken!

For a lowkey date that’s big on fun, head over to Flip Side, Westerly’s first and only pinball bar. Their impressive collection of pinball machines is equally matched with an impressive selection of local craft beers, hand-selected wines and specialty cocktails. It’s guaranteed fun for the kid in all of us (but you must be 21 to enter, so big kids only!).

If you’re the type who likes to be home on the couch by nightfall, then try a brunch date at B&B Dockside for the “best burger this side of the Mississippi.” B&B stands for burgers and breakfast and they do both excellently, with a nice water view to boot. Go classic with the Oak Burger, topped with American cheese, pickles, lettuce & Oak Sauce; or go crazy with the Elvis, topped with peanut butter, bacon, American cheese and an optional additional of caramelized bananas.

If you’re looking for something a little “finer,” you can’t go wrong with Ella’s Fine Food & Drink (Taylor Swift is even a fan). Run by Chef Jeanie Roland who recently released her first book, “Butter Love and Cream,” Ella’s serves a unique array of delectable fare, including seafood, duck, lamb and beef. Curry Mussels served with duck fat-soaked fries, local oysters and their Short Rib Gnocchi are all excellent choices, but you really won’t be disappointed with anything you choose.

The newly remodeled Shelter Harbor Inn is a great option for dinner, a show, and even an overnight. They will be serving special menu additions all weekend long for Valentine’s Day and will have a live performance by the Tish Rabe Trio on Friday evening. If you want to stay the night, their Valentine’s Day package, available from February 9th to February 16th, includes a one-night stay, a bottle of sparkling wine, chocolates and a $50 credit towards food and beverages for $249 Sunday – Thursday or $299 on Friday or Saturday.

Want to really impress someone? Both COAST at Ocean House and Weekpaug Inn are offering Valentine’s Day dinner options. For a cozier and more affordable option, choose Weekapaug Inn, which is charging $65/person plus an optional wine pairing for $50/person. If you’re looking for a world-class culinary experience that you’ll remember for years to come, then an evening at COAST should do the trick. For $125/person plus an optional $95/person wine pairing, their multi-course dining experience includes harpist Faith Letner as a backdrop to their exquisite cuisine and coastal setting. Call ahead for reservations for both.
