Summer is such an amazing time to be in Westerly, between the beaches and the shops and the restaurants, there’s always something to do and see. With so much going on all around town, we decided to do a quick round up to highlight some really special places and events for kids, families, and adults to check out this season.

The Misquamicut Drive In
From now through the end of August, the Misquamicut Drive In will be screening films on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights! Upcoming flicks include classics like Grease, ET, Dirty Dancing, and a Back to the Future three-day event from July 19th-21st, as well as newer films like Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the live action Beauty and the Beast. Refreshments and facilities are available and there’s a flat rate fee per vehicle, so pile friends and family alike into your car and make a night of it!

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Party at Savoy
The Savoy Bookshop and Cafe will be hosting a Harry Potter birthday/20th Anniversary party in honor of the book series first being published in the US in 1998. The evening will feature treats, costume contests, a photo booth and more! They will also have copies of the 20th Anniversary Harry Potter books illustrated by Brian Selznick available for purchase.

Westerly Library and Wilcox Park
Between their regular programming and the Summer Reading program, the Westerly Library will be hosting events for kids and families all summer long. Kids programs include story times, martial arts demonstrations, lots of up close encounters with animals, paint parties, a circus variety show, and much more! Families can also enjoy a screening of Coco in Wilcox Park on July 14th. Need some time with other adults? Find a sitter and join them for a fundraiser called One Summer Night, featuring food, drinks, dancing, and music by Decades.

Paddy’s Beach Club
The adults-only fun continues on at Paddy’s, with the bar hosting a variety events for those 21+ from Sizzling Saturdays with guest DJs spinning in the Tiki area in the afternoon and outstanding bands like Badfish performing in the evening. If you need an excuse to party, Paddy’s also has you covered by hosting Nonprofit Nights every Thursday from June to August for a designated local nonprofit, including organizations like the Dunns Corners School, the Westerly Hospital, and the Westerly Land Trust.

Grey Sail Tap Room
Speaking of fundraising, Grey Sail Brewing will also be hosting a Cheers for Charity event to benefit the Ashaway Library. For $20, guests receive four drink tickets, snacks, and the chance to bid in a silent auction.

The Weekapaug Inn
The Weekapaug Inn will be hosting weekly Lobster Boils and Clambakes featuring wood fire steam lobster, clams, chowder, salads, a dessert table, and s’mores by the fire. Kids favorites are available as well, so bring the family. Join them July 19 and then every Thursday in August!
